overnight at Mfangano Island Camp.
Mfangano is situated on the unspoilt island in
Lake Victoria. This lake has romantic associations as the
source of the River Nile, ever since explorers such as Speke
and Burton came to the area at the end of the last century.
The camp occupies an entire secluded bay on the western shores
of the island and buildings are attractively built of clay and
thatch in the local Luo tribe style. The rooms are spacious,
well decorated and each has a great view of the lake. The camp
is surrounded with indigenous plants and flowers. In the early
morning, fleets of multi-coloured fishing boats sail
gracefully past the bay and in the evening, there are
spectacular sunsets.
The way of life of the lakeside villagers has
not changed for centuries and visiting the villages is a
fascinating experience. Keen anglers will find the fishing
excellent, the bird life is unsurpassed and seeing the
families of otters is absolutely magical. The ambience is that
of a traditional Luo village yet there are no compromises to
comfort.
Day 7 Lake Victoria
Spend the day
fishing on the lake, go bird watching on the island, or just
take a boat ride to the local friendly villages, or spend your
