-
- Day 1:
- Pick up from your Nairobi hotel at 0900 for the three
hours drive north to Mountain Rock Hotel, at the foot of
Mount Kenya. After lunch there are options of taking guided
walks in the area, a visit to the Mau Mau caves, trout
fishing, horse-riding or a mountain bike ride. After Dinner,
there is usually the option of traditional music and dancing
for your entertainment.
- Day 2:
- After Breakfast, all the equipment required for your
climb is sorted and organized. Departure from the hotel is
at 09.30. After a brief stop at Nanyuki for a photo
opportunity at the Equatorial line, the vehicle proceeds
onto the Sirimon Track as far as the Mount Kenya National
Park Gate. From here you hike up to the Old Moses Camp
(3300m). This two to three hours hike is essential for
acclimatization and is also very interesting as you hike
through four of the mountain vegetation belts - the tropical
rain forest, bamboo jungle, rosewood and heather zones.
These are also the areas where you are most likely to see
animals.
- Day 3:
- Your hike starts around 0700 going via the new Sirimon
route through the beautiful and unique Alpine Moorland Zone.
Walking time today is 5-7 hours depending on individual
fitness and stopping half-way for a picnic lunch. You arrive
at Shiptons Camp(4200m), late afternoon and have dinner and
overnight here.
- Day 4:
- A pre-dawn start is essential when attempting Point
Lenana. You are then most likely to be successful in
reaching the summit as well as having the clearest view of
the majestic scenery. If the sky is clear right across the
southern part of Kenya, you will be able to view the peaks
of Mount Kilimanjaro above the clouds over 350 kilometres
away. Dinner and overnight at the camp. Walking time is 5 to
6 hours today.
- Day 5:
- Descend to the Met station on the Naro-Moru track,
traversing the steep marshy section known as the Vertical
Bog. Returning by another route gives a fine contrast to
your hike, and is only 3 to 4 hours walking. Back to the
hotel for a well-earned rest.
- Day 6:
- After breakfast, transfer back to Nairobi, arriving
around midday.
